Since its establishment in 2007, KD Solar¡¯s R&D center is committed to improving the quality of manufacturing and designing solar modules. The scope of the R&D center focuses around three areas: certification, efficiency, and cost optimization.

In terms of certification, the team focuses on researching the latest publications on getting all KD Solar products certified by the international community. For performance, the R&D center has partnered with local government organizations and university labs, by bringing together the corporate interests as well as the public institutions; KD Solar is regularly in contact with the latest research updates.

• Data analysis of aged PV modules and research on durability (current research with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for 3 years)
• Development of the concentrated silicon solar cell module (research with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for 2 years)

And lastly, cost optimization focuses entirely on improving the quality andsimultaneously analyzing ways to reduce costs that include testing of cells, gel contents, damp heat, clean up simulation, sample climate test from -40 OC to 85 OC, and UV test. In addition, the R&D center collaborates with global partners in order to commercialize higher output PV module, developing state-of-the-art cell technology.

List below shows the process/purpose of the activities inside the R&D center.

1) Cell Test
Measure the efficiency of cells in the internal system which improve the module¡¯s output.

2) Gel Contents Test
Performance tests of the lamination. First, separate the EVA sheet from the module which went through the lamination process, then measure chemical reactions of the EVA sheet with certain chemicals. KD Solar constantly checks on the lamination process, which is the core of the module production.

3) Damp Heat Test (Durability Test)
The modules have a warranty of 25 years, therefore durability is a very strong concern. To test this, KD Solar produces durable modules with a thermal shock test that include 200 cycle test on the condition of 85OC, 85%, and 1000 hours condition.

Lastly, the R&D center is responsible to test any claims which come from our customers. We identify the cause for any products that do not perform to market standard.KD Solar understands the importance of innovation and quality. Therefore, they regularly issue patents to help protect new methods which add value to manufacturing and packaging solar modules.

Following is a list of the company¡¯s patents.
